It’s just shy of a month since Austin Aries won the ROH World Championship at “Manhattan Mayhem III” on June 13th. Less than a month since Aries pinned Tyler Black to win the belt held then by Jerry Lynn. Tyler, using a World Title shot he had earned previously, inserted himself into the scheduled Lynn versus Aries title match. Black pinned the defending champion, but ended up getting beat when “A Double” capitalized after Tyler’s knee gave out.

Fast forward a few weeks and Aries has already been through a ringer as champion: a vicious war with Roderick Strong in Philadelphia, a Six Man Mayhem where he stole the win in Detroit, and a successful title defense against Nigel McGuinness in Chicago Ridge. Well, if the champ thought he would get a chance to rest, he was sadly mistaken because a World Title match has been set for Toronto on Friday night, July 24th as part of “Death Before Dishonor VII, Night 1”, and it’s possibly the toughest challenge ROH officials could throw at Austin Aries.

As of late, the Four Corner Survival has been a featured contest on many ROH events. The Four Corner Survival World Title match featured on ROH on HDNet (from Episode 12) will surely be in the running for the Ring of Honor match of the year. This encounter signed for July 24th could well surpass it.

Tyler Black, Jerry Lynn, Nigel McGuinness; three men synonymous with excellence in Ring of Honor will all challenge for the ROH World Title on Friday night, July 24th in a one-fall Four Corner Survival. All three men want that belt more than anything, and each has their own reasons for wanting to get their hands on Aries. Black wants revenge for everything Aries has done since “Final Battle 2008”, and without Jimmy Jacobs to look for over his shoulder, it may be the best shot he’s ever had. Lynn wasn’t beaten by the man currently holding the title, has a mandatory title rematch at his disposal, and is angry as Aries has been nothing but disrespectful towards the classy veteran from the get-go. And when you add Nigel McGuinness, who wants nothing more than to break the champ’s jaw, shut him up, and in turn shut up those who have doubted him getting back into the ring, and you’ve got the makings of a classic. It’s a tremendous opportunity for all three men, but with only one pinfall required to win the match, each competitor has to be on their game at all times. Jerry Lynn was able to weather the storm in week 12 of ROH on HDNet; can Aries add another victorious chapter to his still unseen Manifesto?
